How to Review Fishing-Line Colour Samples
A visual-reference workflow for B2B product teams.
A fishing-line colour review is a controlled comparison of visible samples under recorded conditions. It can approve a colour direction for the next stage, but it cannot establish polymer identity, tensile performance, colourfastness or production suitability by appearance alone.
How should the viewing setup be controlled?
The viewing setup is part of the colour record because lighting and background change perceived colour. In practice, MFE recommends documenting whether the review used daylight, a specified lamp or a screen image and avoiding mixed lighting during the same comparison.
- One neutral background
- One stated light source
- Physical or digital review clearly labelled
What should be photographed and named?
A useful photograph is a supporting reference, not the approval itself. Include the sample identifier and enough context to distinguish hank, cone, spool or finished-line format, then keep the original file rather than circulating compressed screenshots with no traceable name.
- Sample ID visible in the record
- Overall view plus relevant close view
- SEO-safe filename that describes visible content
Where do technical parameters belong?
Technical parameters belong in a separate evidence block. MFE’s 2026 site presents 8 series and 139 supplied parameter rows, while colour images remain visual references; the separation prevents a blue or green sample from inheriting an unrelated diameter or tensile value.
- Colour approval: visual decision
- Parameter table: supplied reference
- Order file: confirmed project requirement
How should a colour decision be handed off?
The handoff is a concise approval note with scope. Our experience is that product and production teams work more reliably when the note states selected sample, acceptable variation question, intended package and next stage instead of forwarding an image with approved in the message body.
- Name the selected sample and revision
- State what remains subject to confirmation
- Link the next sample or production action
